about

Iron Leaf Press creates artisan letterpress printed goods, handmade in our studio, located in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Greeting cards, posters, and paper goods are made the old fashioned way, with an antique printing press, circa 1919. These paper goods are available in the studio, online, and in select retail shops.

Beyond our line of paper goods, we also design and print custom commercial and social stationery, including wedding invitations, business cards, and personal stationery.

WHO WE ARE  Iron Leaf Press began in 2011 when owner, Danielle Chargo, started printing greeting cards in a small second bedroom. Today Danielle is still printing cards, but in a much more spacious studio in Eastern Iowa.

WHAT WE DO  We specialize in letterpress printing, working on projects like wedding invitations, personal stationery, business cards, holiday cards, tags and labels….most anything that involves paper and slinging ink.

Iron Leaf Press is a proud member of the Amalgamated Printer’s Association and the Ladies of Letterpress.

WHY WE DO IT  The love for design and printing began in 2005. After completing a design degree and spending more than a few hours in the printmaking studio, Danielle Chargo turned that love into a full-time passion.

WHY IRON LEAF PRESS  Iron Leaf Press started with a reminder to always do what you love. A small iron leaf keychain was that reminder. That leaf was handcrafted by the founder’s uncle; a man that always followed his passions and was one of the most kind-hearted people known.

Letterpress Conference coming to Io-way

Type on the Cob

One of my favorite things about being a letterpress printer has been meeting other printers, young and old. Over the years they’ve been one of the best resources for learning new tips and tricks, acquiring new equipment, and hearing tales of printing lore. The Midwest and Great Northern Printers’ Fair was the first printing events I ever went to –before I even had any printing equipment.

This year they are partnering with the Ladies of Letterpress and hosting Type on the Cob III at Printers’ Hall on the Thresher’s Grounds in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. There will be workshops, lectures, and printer camaraderie in abundance. I’ll be heading down to Mount Pleasant this September and I’d encourage anyone interested in learning more about the world of letterpress to join the fun. Check out more details here.

And for those wondering what past events have been like, I posted about the first Type on the Cob here and a past Midwest and Great Northern Printers’ Fair here.
